Alien - movie review

Image result for alien 1979 poster
So because Alien: Covenant just came out a few weeks ago, I think I should review every Alien movie!  So Alien is the first film in the long running franchise, it came out in 1979 and was directed by Ridley Scott.  The film tells the story of a space crew who are picked off one by one by an alien, but not just some ordinary alien, it's the iconic Xenomorph!  This is also the first film to feature Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley.  So many people regard this film one of the all time great science-fiction masterpieces, and do I agree with that?  Yes I do!  For me personally, this is my 2nd favorite film in the franchise.  This movie is filled with tension, suspense and wonderful, effective scares.  The acting is great, and also characters you care about!  The first half of the movie is where this movie really builds tension, and it is fucking fantastic!  Although it is very slow paced, it is well worth it in the end!  The Xenomorph itself is great!  Whoever did the effects on the alien did a fantastic job!  It's great to see a Xenomorph in practical effects instead of CGI.  The iconic chest bursting scene is my favorite scene in the movie, it's violent, intense, and gory, it's perfect!  The music score by Jerry Goldsmith is also great to listen to, it matches the film greatly!  Alien is a classic, there is no other way to put it!  It's one of Ridley Scott's finest films, right up there with The Martian, Black Hawk Down and Gladiator.

Grade:  A+
Run time:  117 minutes
MPAA:  Rated R for sci-fi violence/gore, and language
Studio:  Twentieth Century Fox
